Anyone who does business with Trackmobile knows our engineering wizard Bob Evans.  While you have seen him many times with wires in one hand and test instruments in the other, you may not know of his other life:  a triathlete.  Look in the Trackmobile parking lot any weekday, and you’ll see Bob’s red Volvo with a racing bike perched in the rack.

Bob started running on the Athens, Tennessee Middle School track team in the year—well, some years ago.  He went on to the track and field team for McMinn County High School and kept running through college at East Tennessee University.

Once out of college and working as a mechanical engineer, Bob added white water kayaking, hang gliding and SCUBA diving to his physical activities, those in addition to running 5k and 10k road races to get his heart rate up, and marathons when he needed to break a sweat.

1995 was a turning point:  not feeling sufficiently challenged by running, boating, flying and diving, Bob took up triathlons.  Since then, he has averaged between 12 and 15 duathlons and triathlons every year

This year Bob qualified nationally as “all American” status for purposes of national and international competitions based upon the races he won and a point standing system from his times.

And now, the culmination of years of sweat, aches and pains, running, biking and swimming: Bob was selected for the triathlon team representing the United States at the 2005 Japan Airlines Honolulu International Triathlon Union Triathlon World Championships.

This is a huge deal with teams representing more than 50 countries and with men and women of all age groups—up to 80 years old! Bob will fly to Honolulu on October 3 and attend team practices sessions and meetings through October 7, and then the triathlon on October 8.

You can check the official race website www.honolulu2005.com for details about the race, rules, schedules, and then of course for the all-important race results.

These Trackmobile distributors have generously sponsored Bob’s participation and we at Trackmobile greatly appreciate their support:
